Twin 18 cylinder oil engines driving twin controllable pitch propellers.
Operating with her near sister Black Watch she cruised in the winter months and was renamed for such purposes "Venus",whilst in summer she operated the regular service between London and Scaninavia resuming her name Black Prince.
She was converted to a passenger only cruise ship in 1987 at Wartsila Marine Turku Shipyard,Finland,this involved removing cargo spaces and installing lido deck aft,and further sport and leisure facilities in place of the car deck.
Her passenger complement being 412 in one class.
Operating from ports such as Dover,Southampton and from Liverpool in 2003,she quickly established herself as a firm favourite which attracted repeat clientele year after year.She became the forerunner in the Fred Olsen Fleet of a new generation of cruise ships,however was withdrawn from service in October 2009.Sold to Venezuelan owners she was renamed "Ole Esmeralda"and continues to operate cruises around the Venezuelan coast.
